Thanksgiving Reflection

1 Timothy 1: 12-14 says “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service.  Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief.  The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.”

The holiday season is upon us.  Traffic is heavy, grocery stores are full, and my kitchen smells terrific.  I am writing this the day before Thanksgiving as a turkey is roasting in my oven.  I cannot help but stop and thank God for his tremendous blessings in my life.  Both large and small, God’s blessings abound.  Heat and a warm bed on a cold day, laughter of children in the living room, the smells and tastes of the season.  Most importantly, I am thankful for our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.  His sacrifice gives us life and life abundantly.

Out of the abundance of God’s love, grace and peace, we serve and sacrifice for others.   We can only effectively serve out of overflow of what Christ has done for us.  As we reflect on the blessings (some wonderful and some quite difficult) from God, draw strength from his love and faithfulness.  Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
